How to use the WonderMill® grain mill

      Get Started with Fresh Flour

Welcome to the delicious world of Unsifted®! Take a deep breath. We’ve done the hard part, so you can simply follow along, one easy step at a time.

This page walks you through your WonderMill® grain mill setup and first use, in the same order as your Starter Kit emails.

Your Unsifted® Getting Started Guide is in your kit. It walks you through startup step by step, and if you’re a visual learner, its QR codes take you straight to short videos.

      Your WonderMill® first use

WonderMill® grain mill setup, step by step

Setup comes first, and your first bake comes once everything is dry. Go at your own pace.

      Step 1

Unbox your Starter Kit and find a home for it

Take your time with this one. There’s no rush to do anything else today.

      • Check everything off as you unpack it.
      • Find a spot on your counter near an outlet for your WonderMill® Electric Grain Mill.
      • Keep your grain in its sealed bags on a cool, dry shelf.

      Step 3

Wash the canister and lid, then let them dry completely

Once you’ve tossed the priming flour, wash the flour canister and its lid. Then give them time to dry all the way. Your first bake comes once the canister is completely dry, so this is a great place to pause.

      Step 4

Mill your first grain and bake your first recipe

Pick any recipe from your Unsifted® Recipe Cards. Each card tells you exactly how much grain to mill and which texture to set on your WonderMill®, so there’s no math and nothing goes to waste. Measure your grain, mill it, and bake.

Not sure where to start? Many customers love Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins, a variation on the back of the Master Muffins card. Any recipe on your cards is a great first bake.

      A friendly tip

Fresh, whole grain flour is naturally high in fiber, so drink plenty of water as you start enjoying it. It helps keep things moving comfortably. Everyone’s different; check with your doctor if you have questions.

      For every WonderMill® owner

What’s the best grain to use in your WonderMill®?

It depends on what you’re baking. That’s why Unsifted® made a simple system: two whole grain blends, exclusive to Unsifted®, and recipe cards built for them. You bring the mill. We’ve taken the guesswork out of everything else.

A blend for what you bake

The Basic Blend is made for soft, lofty yeasted breads. The Dessert Blend is made for light, tender cookies, muffins, and pancakes.

      No guesswork

No wondering which wheat berry to use, no mixing ratios, and no sifting. Every recipe tells you which blend to use.

      Measured in grain

Unsifted® Recipe Cards tell you exactly how much grain to mill and which texture to set, so nothing goes to waste.

“It’s so great not having to guess which wheat berries I need to use for each recipe.”

      Malory

“I made a loaf of bread and wow it was amazing! … From my experience the grains can make all the difference!”

      Meghan

Same blends. Same cards. Same results. That’s how fresh flour baking becomes an easy, everyday part of your family’s kitchen. Curious? See why two blends are all you need.

      WonderMill® questions

      WonderMill® FAQ and troubleshooting

Do I need to prime my WonderMill®?

Yes. Prime your new WonderMill® before its first use. Priming runs white rice through the mill to clean out any production dust. The Unsifted® Prime Pack is conveniently portioned white rice made for this step. See Step 2 for the priming video.

What do I do with the priming flour?

Throw all of it away. Never bake with priming flour. Its only job is to clean your mill.

Can I bake the day my mill arrives?

We recommend using arrival day to unbox and set up. Prime the mill, throw away the priming flour, then wash the canister and lid and let them dry completely. Your first bake comes after that, once the canister is fully dry.

How much grain should I mill?

Only what your recipe needs. Every Unsifted® Recipe Card tells you exactly how much grain to mill, so nothing goes to waste. Using a recipe written for store-bought flour? Our fresh flour conversion tips can help you get started.

What texture should I set on my WonderMill®?

The WonderMill® lets you control the texture from super-fine pastry flour to coarse. Each Unsifted® Recipe Card tells you which texture to set for that recipe.

What grain should I use in my WonderMill®?

Choose the blend made for what you’re baking: the Unsifted® Basic Blend for yeasted breads and everyday staples, and the Unsifted® Dessert Blend for cookies, muffins, pancakes, and other sweet, tender bakes. Every Unsifted® recipe tells you which blend to use.

How do I clean my WonderMill®?

The WonderMill®’s stainless mill heads are self-cleaning, which makes cleanup a breeze. Before your first use, wash the flour canister and lid and let them dry completely. Watch the canister cleaning video in the Unsifted® App.
