SHELF LIFE & STORAGE

Our whole grain blends have a very long shelf life when stored in an airtight, cool, and pest/bug free container. They’ve found grain in ancient Egyptian tombs that has still sprouted!

We recommend using the fresh milled flour the same day you mill it to maximize nutritional benefits. However, fresh flour can be stored in an airtight container as follows:

At room temperature for 3 days
In the fridge for 7 days
In the freezer for 6 months

FRESH FLOUR MAXIMIZES NUTRIENTS

Our diversified Unsifted Blends allow for an enhanced range of nutrients in every bite. Wheat berries alone have 40 of the 44 key essential nutrients for life. Isn't that amazing? However, fresh flour begins oxidizing as soon as it is cut or milled. Several of the precious nutrients begin to oxidize as soon as they are exposed to air. Fresh flour can lose up to 90% of its nutritional value after just three days. We recommend milling flour on an as-needed basis to maximize the nutritional benefit, rather than milling ahead. The baking process locks in the nutrients (vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, etc.), with minimal nutritional loss thereafter.

In addition, whole grains are made to survive – they are even designed to survive your digestive track (think of corn). The tough exterior (the bran) is like a shield for the precious seed. Milling breaks down that protective bran and maximizes the surface area of the grain, therefore maximizing the nutrients your body has access to. The good news, is milling is SO easy!

Perfect Intro Kit to Fresh Milling

I’m one month in to using my recipe cards, mill and berries (after being gluten free for nearly a decade due to skin rashes). I’ve had no resurgence of symptoms since using whole grains and absolutely love eating bread again! The recipes make it easier to understand how to get started with fresh milled flour. The kit was the perfect intro to fresh milling and I’m so glad I gave it a try.

Oh my, it’s exceeded my expectations!

Oh my, where do I start? This grain mill has made milling such a breeze since I had been using a hand crank mill for several months while waiting patiently for the mill to arrive. It now only takes seconds to mill my grain into flour, and the basic recipe for my Zojirushi bread machine makes the most incredible bread I have ever eaten! Soaking part of the flour in warm water and lemon juice is the secret to soft spongy moist bread that I just want to eat all day. Love the amazing basic grain blend and the mill!!
